Tuesday Challenge

Lily hasn't seen this show. But Mommy and Daddy couldn't resist. What character is she portraying?

Look Quick!

Confession: Lily is really singing a different song. But the beginning reminded Mommy of the opening of one of her favorite shows. Name that musical!

An easy one...

This one isn't a challenge at all,  but I couldn't resist. She didn't do this for the challenge. She just does it all the time because she loves it. So tonight's question is: what CHARACTER is this?

"Princess"

Last night Lily wanted to see a particular picture of a particular Broadway character. "The princess one." I didn't know who she meant. So she posed, and said "The princess who goes like this."

It took some time, but I figured it out. What's the name of the Broadway character Lily was pretending to be last night?

Where's Lily?

She's pretending to be with some of her favorite characters in a rather short-lived Disney musical. Name that SONG.

Throwback Thursday- The Valentine's Day Edition

We decided to make Thursdays outtake day. But today isn't just any Thursday. It's Valentine's Day! So here are Lily's Challenges of Valentine's Days Past!

Valentine's Day 2012

Valentine's Day 2011

And for fun, let's play! Remember, 2012 is the title of a John Bucchino Song, and 2011 is two parts- show and song. That makes this a three-part challenge! Surprise!

Favorite Shows

Coincidentally, Lily's middle name is the same as the setting of her favorite show. Name that show, AND what is her middle name? (For those of you who don't know her personally, feel free to guess!)

A late night challenge!

Well, late night for toddlers, and parents of toddlers, anyway. This one was at Lily's own request. We're looking for the lyrics that she's singing. Good luck!

Challenge and Disclaimer

Regarding the ending, and for the record. I did not put her in the basket. She did that herself. Also, she is certain she is singing the correct words Please don't correct her, and name that tune!

Sunday Challenge

We're feeling fancy today. So here's a picture of Lily ready to sing an aria from her favorite opera. In the best of all possible worlds, she'd get to wear this look to preschool. Name that show!

Snow Day Fun

Important info about today's challenge. She's not in costume. She's just chosen to dress like this today. Stay warm, everybody, and name that musical!

Outtake Thursday

So far Lily has been highly cooperative and has gotten a kick out of this project.

But Lily, as you remember, is 3.

So in case that doesn't last, we're devoting Thursdays to her outtakes.

Here's the first one. No contest today, just enjoy.

A Hump Day Challenge

Lily's Mommy loves Sondheim. (Don't we all?) Therefore, she is certain that when Lily described her picture to her Preschool teacher this way, she was referencing THIS musical.

Challenge #4

The bane of Lily's existence is also one of her greatest sources of pride. It's also the name of a war protest musical. Name that musical! (and wish us luck, as our living room will look a lot like this again this evening...)

Monday, February 4, 2013

Challenge #3

One of Lily's favorite desserts is also the title of a charming song from a classic musical based on a popular novel. If the most recent movie version of that novel had been a musical, the song would have been sung by Meg Ryan. Name that musical!

Superbowl Sunday!

In honor of Superbowl Sunday, (you guys know that's today, right? It's that place where Beyonce is singing.) Lily gives you her interpretation of this recently-closed, short-lived musical. Name that musical!

Lily's Challenge, 2013

This is Lily. That lady holding her is her Mommy- Artistic Director Mindy Kay Smith. They're standing on the set of "Barefoot in the Park," in which Mindy played Corey. Lily is just under three weeks old in this picture. Why is a three-week-old baby at a theatre? Because Mindy (and Daddy Ryan) didn't know Lily was coming. (No need to call "I didn't Know I Was Pregnant." Lily is adopted.) The production was ready to open, and the show must go on. So, with ten days' notice, Mindy became a Mommy. Five days later the show opened. And Lily saw the inside of a theatre before she saw her nursery.

What happens when a little girl spends that much time in a theatre that young? First of all, you end up with the ridiculous exhausted faces seen above. But more importantly...

You end up with a kid who knows a lot about musicals and loves to perform. This is Lily a few weeks ago at Friends and Family Day for her dance class. At 3 1/2 she loves to sing and dance and go see shows. And she knows more about Broadway than kids at least three times her age. (Of course, even twelve-year-olds don't ordinarily know much about Broadway...)

For the past two years, Momentum Rep has been helping fans beat the February blues with Lily's Challenge. Lily and family post pictures and videos that offer clues about a musical, and fans race to see who can guess first. (You can see past challenges by checking out archived blog entries from February of 2012 and 2011.) Lily has developed quite a following, so we've decided that for this, her third year, we'll give her challenge some structure.

So here they are, the rules to Lily's Challenge 2013

1. Lily is now a person with very strong opinions of her own. She has moods and likes and thoughts and ways of expressing them that are far beyond what she has done for the past two years. Therefore, there will NOT be a challenge every day. Mommy and Daddy only want to do it when she thinks it's fun :)

2. We'll let you know when a challenge will be posted that day, and we'll give you a head's up about the time.

3. Answers must be posted on THIS BLOG. This is a little different compared to other years. But we're looking for the first correct answer on THIS BLOG. Log your guess in the comment section below.

4. Each time you are the first to guess correctly, your name will be entered in a drawing. At the end of the month, one name will be drawn to win a hand-painted Momentum Rep tote bag. (Similar style, for those of you familiar, to our Race McCloud and Don't Be the Bunny TShirts)

5. The challenge may be looking for a show title, a song, a composer, an actor.... be sure to read the challenge carefully!

6. Not all of the clues will be photos and videos of Lily, but they'll all involve her in some way.

7. On some of the days when a challenge isn't posted, we'll still treat you with an out-take. (We already have a few.)

8. Share the challenge with your friends! It's fun!

Break a leg, everybody! See you tomorrow (yes, there will be one tomorrow) for the first official challenge!
